Letting Someone Else Read to Your Kindergartener
On our last blog post, we shared how to log into Mackinvia. On that site is BookFlix, a great reading source for your child. There are also sites that don't require a login. One site is Storyline Online. Below is the link to that site. Well known actors have volunteered to read great books. Your child will love these books. Enjoy!

Technology
We have been exploring some fun websites in class for social studies, science & reading. These websites can be accessed through www.mackinvia.com. When you get there, choose Hayes Elementary, Kennesaw, Georgia for the school.
User ID: Your child’s ID number
Password: read
You can access Bookflix by typing Bookflix in the search box at the top. Another favorite is PebbleGo. Your child can read all about animals, national symbols and national holidays on PebbleGo. The kids also really like Moby on BrainPop. BrainPop and BookFlix have Spanish versions available as well!

Ship Shape!
We're learning about 2D shapes. Here are a couple fun songs to practice with your child.
Habit #1: Be Proactive!
To be proactive means to take responsibility for your choices and behaviors. Habit 1 is the key to all of the other habits; that’s why it comes first. We ask that you discuss the meaning of this habit with your child, and then look for evidence that your child is living the habit at home. Return the letter in your child’s folder, and he/she may get to join Mrs. Watson at one of our monthly Leadership breakfasts!

Practice Counting to 50...while watching kids make the numbers with PlayDoh!
Dads Of Great Students
Do you have a student that has come home talking about seeing a WATCH D.O.G.S. Dad volunteering at Hayes?
WATCH D.O.G.S.®, a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day at their child’s/student's school during the school year.
If interested, please e-mail Pamela.Walker@cobbk12.org OR Click Here to Volunteer
PTSA News

Happenings for Our Kinder Mustangs
Here are a couple fun songs to practice:
A Little Help
Listening: Please talk to your child about listening during lessons. As you’re talking to your child at home, it will really help us if your child can practice keeping eye contact with you and listen to you the whole time. Also, giving your child jobs and making sure that they’re completed will be great practice.
Daily Folders: Please check your child’s folder every day for any important information and sign their behavior sheet.
Breakfast: If your child has breakfast at school, please remind him/her to eat here (some are forgetting to go and say they’re hungry later). Also, if your child is a car rider, he/she has to be here by 7:30am to receive breakfast in the cafeteria.
Dress Code
Beginning this week, Hayes will begin
enforcement of the Cobb County dress code. All students must dress
appropriately and neatly. Here are some general guidelines:
Skirts and shorts may
be no shorter than one inch above the student's knee.
Shorts, dresses and
skirts with leggings must also be 1 inch above knee or longer
No tank tops or two
tank tops worn on top of each other.
No see-through
garments without proper under garments.
No clothing with
suggestive phrases, designs or profanity.
No midriff blouses or
skirts.
No bandanas or caps.
No halter tops or
spaghetti straps.
No pants that expose
the navel.

Happy NEW Year!!
We are so excited to be back in school...well, back in school for the teachers! It's a first school experience for the sweetest bunch of new Hayes Mustangs!
Here are some tidbits from our week:
If you're looking for something fun to extend what we're doing in our classrooms, check out how we're practicing our letters!
ABCMouse: Next week, you’ll be getting a form with a class access code for ABCMouse. We love this website. The kids can really get practice using a mouse as well as working on some good Kindergarten skills.
Fieldtrip: We are going on a fieldtrip to Pettit Creek Farms on 9.23.16. It’s one of fun things that we look forward to each year. You will be getting a permission form on Monday. Please send it back by Friday, September 2. Just an FYI: When we set a “due by” date for things, you don’t have to wait until that date, you can send them back right away.
Homework: We are starting homework next week with some special things that need extra practice. You’ll get a pink homework sheet on Monday. The kids need some name writing practice, help saying their address & counting to 50.

Let's Keep Our Shoes Tied!
The kids have learned SO much this year academically. One thing that is a "real life" skill that would make any first grade teacher happy is having your child learn to tie shoes. This is a new and super quick way. You'll want to add a "double bow" after the initial bow, but this is really amazing!
